AN EXPAT-RUN cafeteria on the Costa Blanca has claimed it is the ‘first in Spain’ to use an innovative pasta straw that cuts out single-use plastic waste.
The Stroodles straws now available at Caffe Milano in Javea are vegan, edible, flavourless, biodegradable and leave zero waste after consumption.
The new product claims it also keeps its form for over an hour – paper alternatives have come under fire for turning soggy after use.
“We were the first in Spain to 100% ban single-use takeaway cups, we no longer sell any drinks in plastic bottles and have now stopped using single serve sugar sachets which are not recyclable,” co-owner Matt Milano told the Olive Press.
“When talking with Stroodles founder Maxim, it became clear that his pasta straws were a perfect match for CaffèMilano-The Italian Coffee House.
“Now we are also the first business in the country to officially ‘Stroodle’.
“As we roll out our new coffee shop franchise network, we will continue with our responsibility to look for new ways to reduce, reuse and recycle”.
It comes after the Olive Press reported on Caffe Milano’s innovative reusable cups ushered in in May.
