THE hugely popular Popeyes is set to open its first locations in Spain tomorrow.

The American fried chicken favourite will have three establishments in Madrid.

One in both Calle Mayor and the La Gavia Shopping Centre, which will open tomorrow (November 21) and another in Plenilunio, which will open on December 4.

“We prepare our products using only fresh and national chicken. We take special care of the quality, not only of the raw materials but of the whole process,” said Ignacio Sedano, Popeyes brand director for Spain and Portugal, at a launch event.

Popeyes, founded in Louisiana, is known for its crunchy chicken with ‘a distinctly southern flavour.’

The Spanish menu will see some different options added, including grilled chicken and other lighter choices.

“Following our traditional recipe, we prepare and batter our products by hand, which distinguishes our chicken for its unique flavour…crispy on the outside, but maintaining the inner marinade and all its juiciness, ”added Ignacio Sedano.

The chicken is marinated for 12 hours in a selection of spices which form the secret recipe of ‘Papa Popeye’.

The chain recently caused a frenzy on social media after releasing a new chicken sandwich in the US to rival its controversial competitor Chick-fil-A.

It was so popular that stores nationwide ran out of the menu item.
