A VALENCIAN classical guitarist has beaten heavy metal band Metallica to become the fastest musician to play in all seven continents.
Rafael Serrallet, from Valencia city, gigged across the globe to achieve the Guinness World Record feat in 154 days and 22 hours.
He pipped previous record holders Metallica, who in 2013 played a concert in Antartica and became the first musical act to play on the earth’s seven continents.
Serrallet’s unplugged appearance on Antartica also appeared to be better received by penguins who were filmed waddling past the warm tones of his Spanish guitar.
And the Valencian maestro – who has more than 1,000 concerts under his belt – said the record bid was very much in honour of the natural world.
“In 2018, by chance I had all the continents in my calendar, until a friend messaged me to say ‘you still have Antartica’,” Serrallet told the Olive Press.
“We realised we could make it happen, and also take advantage of the record to raise awareness about climate change.
“So we did it, and raised funds for WWF-Malaysia.”
Serrallet has so far raised €800 for the wildlife foundation.
