Xmas Lights Malaga
GORGEOUS: Christmas forest in Calle Larios

THIS year’s theme for the iconic Malaga Christmas lights is a winter wonderland forest, it has been revealed.

Calle Larios will be adorned with suns, angels and autumn leaves with the help of 22 arches made up of 730,000 lights.

According to events councillor Teresa Porras, the work of putting up the lights will begin tomorrow and will be completed on November 29.

Many of the figures in the forest will be made of a special material called methacrylate, which means they will pop during the day as well as the night.

Mariah Carey’s xmas classic will be one of the soundtracks to the light shows

Once opened, there will be musical light shows at 18:30, 20:00 and 21:30 each day.

The songs chosen for this year are All I want for Christmas is you by Mariah Carey, Jingle bell rock, by Hilary Duff, En Navidad, by Javián, Alex, David Bustamante and Academia OT with Rosana, and Never Back Down (Battlecry), from TSFH recorded by the Sofia Session orchestra.

The lights will remain up for 40 days from November 29.

Some 76 streets in the Historic Centre will also be illuminated this year.

It has cost the local government some €806,000, with €532,000 going on Calle Larios alone.

  1. Malaga is full of little treasures, and I am pretty sure there are many more to find. 5 years ago we felt in love with the beautiful city and created our Sightseeing Treasure Hunt. A wonderful way to explore in a fun and self-paced way all the cultural hot-spots and little treasures of Malaga.
    See you soon in Malaga!
