WATCH: Gota fria wreaks havoc in eastern Spain as one person killed while another four missing

Breaking news at The Olive Press

A PENSIONER has been killed after being washed away during intense rainfall and flooding in Catalunya.

The 75-year-old disappeared last night after being taken by a flood stream in Arenys de Munt.

His body was found on Caldes d’Estrac beach this morning.

He was washed away while trying to move his car away from a river bed.

It comes after the region was put on red alert yesterday for heavy rainfall due to another gota fria, just weeks after the same weather phenomenon wrought havoc on the eastern peninsula.

A seven-year-old girl, a 35-year-old woman and a man, 44, have also been injured after flooding destroyed the Aqua Alba campsite in Gualba, Barcelona.

Another four people are missing.

The destruction has seen 60 roads cut off and several railway lines closed.

Meanwhile, more than 30,000 homes are without electricity with some 1,760 incidents called in to emergency services.
