A CHILEAN chef is facing either a three-year jail sentence or deportation after he cracked a plate over his waiter’s head in a Villajoyosa restaurant.
Following a fierce argument in front of a full restaurant, the chef clobbered the waiter at the stroke of midnight last August, 2014.
The waiter required stitches for the assault that split open his nose and face.
Following the chef’s arrest, it became clear the alleged assailant did not possess required papers to reside in Spain.
The Chilean national is now in the Provincial Court of Alicante docks facing three years and eight months in jail.
The public prosecutor, however, has requested the sentence be replaced by his expulsion from Spain and prohibition from returning for five years.
The prosecutor also asks that the waiter be paid €9,000 in compensation.
The trial continues.
