A DRAMATIC shooting was reported on the packed streets of Benidorm, after a ‘drunken Englishman’ was refused entry to a nightclub early on Wednesday morning.
The aggressor, a 46-year-old Briton, was tracked down and arrested by Policia Local, after shooting a doorman in the leg and fleeing from the scene.
He and a friend were earlier refused entry to a nightclub because he was ‘in a serious state of intoxication’, eye witnesses told Diario Informacion.
The sources claim that after a struggle, the pair left, threatening the 38-year-old employee.
The Briton later returned in a car and parked up in front of the premises, shooting a low-calibre weapon twice into the air, and once at the Romanian’s leg.
As the victim gave chase, he found Policia Local agents who alerted colleagues across the city, and the perpetrator was quickly found on Amtella del Mar Avenue.
Authorities are working with British Police to see if the shooter has a criminal record at home, and with the Commissariat to determine whether the firearm has been used in other crimes.
Benidorm Police advise that the doorman was released from a private clinic later that morning, after being treated for gunshot wounds to the leg.
Lorenzo Martínez, Councillor for Citizen Security of Benidorm, congratulated the Police for their speed and professionalism, highlighting, ‘the reaction capacity of the Local Police, which in a matter of minutes stopped the alleged shooter.’
In July of last year, an English tourist was killed when caught in the crossfire of a gangland shooting.
A fight in March resulted in a Scotsman dying from a blow to the head, and two workers were stabbed in February when trying to stop an altercation in their club.
