Police to get 20 new bulletproof vests and helmets in Costa del Sol’s Estepona

POLICE: Estepona’s local officers get new equipment

ESTEPONA’S Policia Local officers have been issued with 20 new bulletproof vests and protective helmets.

The cost of the equipment has not been revealed, but Deputy Mayor Ana Velasco, said the vests would accompany the 20 the force already has.

For the first time ever, each officer will will receive their own vest, which according to Velasco will provide, ‘greater protection against deterioration’.

An exact number of helmets has not been confirmed, but these will be for traffic police.

Estepona’s status as a tourist town was cited in the rationale behind the new purchases.

Velasco added: ‘It is a priority for the government team because it has a positive impact on the services provided to citizens.”

It comes after Estepona spent €500,000 on 14 new police motors in the last few years, including two camouflaged vehicles and four motorcycles.
