A PANIC was caused outside a mosque in Spain yesterday after a mystery man fired four shots before speeding off.

The attack happened during dawn prayers when one – possibly two – assailants fired four rounds outside the Muley el-Mehdi Mosque, according to EFE news agency.

Luckily no one was injured at the place of worship in Ceuta, which is the largest of its kind in the Spanish-held territory.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Eyewitnesses told the local El Faro de Ceuta newspaper that an assailant fired the shots before escaping on a motorcycle.

Some 40% of Ceuta’s inhabitants are Muslim.
