DEPART: The incident occurred as the plane prepared to take off

A BRITISH woman has died on-board a UK-bound flight from Spain moments before the plane was due to take-off.

58-year-old Janice McNeill is reported to have fallen ill shortly after she took her seat on the Edinburgh-bound Ryanair flight from Mallorca’s Palma Airport.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene to treat the passenger but attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: “This flight from Palma to Edinburgh was delayed ahead of take-off after a customer became ill prior to departure,

“Paramedics boarded the aircraft after medical assistance was requested but the customer sadly passed away,

“Ryanair extends its deepest sympathies to the bereaved and is providing any assistance required.”

BRIT: Passenger is thought to have suffered a heart attack

An autopsy will be performed to clarify cause of death, but all signs point to Ms McNeill suffering a heart attack and dying of natural causes.

The Foreign Office said: “Our consular staff are supporting the family of a British woman following her death in Spain.”
