LONDON has been named the second best tourist destination in the world by TripAdvisor.

The UK capital came second only to Paris in the tenth annual Travellers’ Choice awards for destinations.

Rome was hot on its heels in third place, with tropical Bali fourth. But the Big Apple fell from top-of-the-tree fifth place to tenth in the ratings.

Crete, Barcelona, Prague, Marrakech and Istanbul – which come in fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth respectively – all ranked above New York.

The awards are based on millions of reviews and opinions from users on TripAdvisor.

Winners were chosen using an algorithm derived from the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for hotels, restaurants and attractions and traveller booking interest.

Seven of the top ten come from Europe this year: Paris, London, Rome, Crete, Barcelona, Prague and Istanbul.

  1. Don’t believe everything you read on TripAdvisor. They manipulate to the point of interest. A review of mine about an apartment in Copenhagen that was dirty on arrival and was clearly lived in by the owner, who left when it became rented. I stated the truth and the review was published then taken down after a few months.
    Suspicious or not!
