CULTURE is taking over from climate as the top reason tourists visit Andalucia.
The region saw 10.6 million international tourists last year, with the weather cited as the biggest draw.
However, Jose Ramon Benitez, Spain’s new Cultural Heritage and Museums chief, says that monuments are now the main reason people visit the destination.
Cultural tourism now represents 28.8 % of all visitors to the region.
Across Andalucia, there are 126 declared historic areas, and numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
