Espigoladors salvage food discarded by farmers in north-east Catalonia for being too ugly, overripe or unpopular. The project, which works with hard-up volunteers from social services, has around 30 producers and distributors signed up. Within 24 hours of Espigoladors being advised there is spare harvest, a team of ten to 20 people is dispatched to harvest he leftovers. The volunteers can take as much as they want for themselves with the rest divided between community kitchens.
