GIBRALTARIANS spend around £73 million on food shopping in Andalucia each year.
The chamber of commerce found the Rock’s residents regularly hop over the border to splash the cash in Spain’s supermarkets.
A total of £46 million was spent within the Campo de Gibraltar alone in 2013.
Someone isn’t very good at maths at the chamber of commerce.
73 million pounds is around 100 million euros, and there are 30,000 residents in Gibraltar.
That means EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM would need to spend over 250 Euros a month every month of the year to hit that number.
In reply to Dave @11:16. Dave, you may also forget that many businesses also do their foodstuffs shopping in Spain too. Fish, perishables, you name it are bought in Spain.
sensible – better & more diversed food items for Gib’s diverse population, better selection, prices
quality. If a LIDL or ALDI opened on La Linea (as UK Facts show) Gib shopping would go to about ZERO!
already a Lidl and aldi in la linea ,actually 2 in la linea for Lidl
