Instituto Cervantes, a worldwide non-profit organisation that promotes Spanish language and culture education, released a new Spanish competency test intended to match the English IELTS and TOEFL.

The SIELE is computer based, and grades listening, reading, writing and oral fluency on a 1,000-point scale.

By incorporating different variants of the language, the test seeks to promote the equality of the different Spanish-speaking populations.
