A FORMER mayor in Granada has been banned from taking political office for urban abuse.

Ex-mayor of Otura, Ignacio Fernandez-Sanz received a 16 year ban and a €4,000 fine for approving infrastructure works at illegally built properties.

Two other councillors, Pedro Cabanillas and Ignacio Perez have been served with seven year bans for their involvement.

The charges date back to 2007 when a licence was granted despite no official visit taking place at the site.
