THE Gibraltar FA’s quest to be recognised by FIFA as a footballing nation enters the courts today.
Gibraltar want to join FIFA and enter the qualifying rounds for the 2018 Russian World Cup.
Their initial application was rejected by the world’s governing football body, and they will now take their fight to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The hearing will take place over the next two days and if successful Gibraltar could be accepted on May 29 as FIFA’s 210th member.
The CAS previously helped Gibraltar join European footballing body UEFA.
They are currently involved in European Championship qualification, in which they sit bottom of their group having lost each of their five games so far.
