HAD enough of Shakespeare? Can’t cope with another equation? Do not despair… because a course in Cristiano Ronaldo studies is now on offer.
A Canadian university is offering Ronaldo fans the opportunity to take a course in the Real Madrid star.
The University of British Columbia has established a fourth-year sociology module on the three time Ballon d’Or winner.
“Sociology is nothing if not the delving into the processes of structuring identities and experiences and exposing the social forces that push these processes,” said Luis Aguiar, associate professor of sociology.
“In this case, I’m interested in how Ronaldo has been used to construct several discourses about who he is, what makes him distinct as a footballer and what his relationship to Portugal is.”
During the course, students will examine the created image of Ronaldo compared to Portuguese stereotypes.
“My two greatest passions are football and critical sociology. A course on Cristiano Ronaldo gives me the opportunity to combine the two,” added Aguiar.
Ronaldo becomes the second Old Trafford old boy to be studied following a move to Madrid.
David Beckham became the first when Staffordshire University offered students a module on the England captain’s move from Manchester United to Spain.
