REVOLUTIONARY technology is being trialled at an energy plant in Granada.
The EU project, led by Nordic fuel company PowerCell, is converting toxic waste from the region’s huge olive oil producers into electricity.
The pilot plant, in Loja, has been launched with partners in Spain, Greece, Sweden and the UK.
The waste from olive oil production, which contains pesticides and toxic compounds, is environmentally harmful and costly to dispose of.
The new scheme at the cooperative San Isidro de Loja would avoid it being dumped in landfill sites.
Lovely! Keep the toxic filth out of (expensive) landfill and instead spew it out into the air for everyone to breathe.
