Daughter of Spain’s richest man becomes Zara’s second-largest share holder

THE daughter of Spain’s richest man, Amancio Ortega, is now the second-largest shareholder in fashion group Inditex.

Sandra Ortega Mera, 46, now owns 5% of the company after inheriting more than 150 million shares – valued at €3.5 billion – after her mother’s death last year.

Inditex is the parent company to eight brands including Zara, Pull & Bear and Massimo Dutti and has more than 6,500 shops in 88 countries.

Her father remains the company’s main shareholder with a 59% stake. Mera also inherited a 5% stake in pharmaceutical company Zeltia from her mother.
