New golf academy in Almeria comes under criticism

A NEW €5 million public golf academy in Almeria has come under heavy criticism.

Luciano Alonso, the Andalucian Minister of education, culture and sport, laid the foundation stone at the Golf El Toyo academy, which covers an impressive 30 hectares.

But locals have criticised its location – just 200m from an established town hall-owned golf facility.

Disgruntled residents believe the Hospital Provincia de Almeria project should have taken priority, after construction stalled during the financial crisis.

An extra €500,000 is set to be spent on the urbanisation of the surrounding area in El Toyo.
