A BRITISH couple was rescued off the Almeria coast after their 21.6m yacht caught fire.

The Coastguard and the 112 Emergency Coordination Service received several reports of a flare going up 12 nautical miles east of Carboneras at 11:30pm on Saturday.

The man, 44, and woman, 33, were rescued by a Marine Rescue helicopter around midnight from a life-raft they had transferred into.

The American yacht sank while burning but the couple remained uninjured and did not need to be taken to hospital.
