Gibraltar calls on Queen to visit the Rock

CHIEF Minister Fabian Picardo has called on the Queen to visit the Rock after a 60 year absence.

Picardo made the plea to Her Majesty while addressing 30,000 people during National Day celebrations.

The Chief Minister enlisted the enthusiastic crowd to support the idea.

“If I can’t hear you, they can’t hear you in Buckingham Palace. Gibraltar, do you want the Queen to come back to the Rock?” he asked, as the crowd cheered and clapped in agreement.

“Now there’s a message and a half,” Picardo added.

Earlier this year, the Olive Press revealed that the idea of a Royal visit had been floated during a high level meeting with representatives from the UK government.

  1. Many people drop in unofficially and unannounced for a short visit, Royals included, and its not as if we haven’t had our share of royal visits throughout the years. Whether Her Majesty The Queen decides to come again to visit will be entirely up to the powers that be. Either way she remains Our Queen and those of us who were present at her last visit, still have fond memories of it. It is not as if something would change drastically in our daily lives but it would be lovely to welcome her again. It could, of course, be used like it was the last time, fifteen years later after the visit, by Franco as an excuse to close the Frontier and provide a welcome relief from the troubles he was having at the time himself with student revolts and miners (does anything ever change in Spanish politics?) Either way we stand resolute to continue being British Gibraltarians in our Gibraltar whether they like it or not, the Spanish politicians I mean.

  2. Ciudadanos- Prince Harry isn’t into monstrous corruption, unbelievable beaurocracy, giving support to Russian naval vessels in Spain’s Moroccan enclaves or Russian money-laundering on the Costa Blanca either.Maybe he should visit Catalonia. Great weather, beautiful Barcelona and some of the prettiest girls on the Iberian Peninsula. That’d be burning the dictator of Madrid’s beard!
