SPAIN’S first bondage hotel has had to cancel its grand opening following uproar from locals and the town hall.
The 20-room and four-dungeon hotel – in the small Valencian village of Vilafranca – was inspired by the international furore caused by erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey.
But angry locals have put a stop to the BDSM – standing for bondage, discipline, sadism and masochism – lodging, claiming it is too close to the village chapel.
The Mayor of Vilafranca – Oscar Tena – launched legal action to block the plans, claiming that existing paperwork was insufficient for a hotel and restaurant on the site.
The businessman behind the hotel, who wishes to remain anonymous, claimed however that locals have been using the hotel restaurant very happily before the plans were unveiled, with no call for further paperwork.
Mayor Tena said: “We are very angry with this person for causing this scandal without saying anything to the proprietors of the hotel or the town hall.
“We don’t want this in our village, because it is right next to our residential centre and our chapel.”
The anonymous businessman is renting a roadside hotel called the L’Om del Llosar, but plans to rename it Roissy Castle, as a nod to erotic novel The Story of O.
A Facebook advert for the hotel, which is ‘equipped with all the comforts’, states: “Our guests can enjoy their games, exhibit themselves and share experiences with other visitors.”
I agree with the viaage absolutely disgusting
It seems strange that they would complain that it was too near to the chapel, penitents could go in for more than a few Hail Marys
If these “outraged locals” and their pompous little mayor were to actually read this “book” they would realise what an absurd pot-boiler it is and treat the whole silly exercise with the mockery it deserves. Banning this daft set-up, lends it gravity it doesn’t merit.
Mary,
well said – flagellation is very popular amongst Catholics and one of the Muslim sects. Pope Paul was a great believer in self flagellation. The Inquisition was a great believer in sadism.
BDSM, Religion or location are the real issue.
When does an existing hotel/restaurant that has been in operation, with approved documentation, suddenly become ineligible to continue because the location is not approved/zone to accommodate a hotel/restaurant? Did anyone mention this to the past hotel/restaurant owners/proprietors?
Got to love the bureaucracy in Spain
