Venice city council sues Spanish architect over bridge

Santiago Calatrava e

SPANISH architect Santiago Calatrava is being sued by Venice City Council.

The city says it has had to fork out €464,000 to repair construction defects on the Ponte della Costituzione, which was planned by the architect.

The council is also demanding an additional €4 million to cover extra costs not included in the design.

The bridge – which crosses the Grand Canal – has been unpopular with residents since it first opened in November 2008.
