THE PP leader who was photographed holidaying with a drug smuggler continued to contact the criminal after he was arrested it has emerged.
Albert Nunez Feijoo, leader of the Galicia region, faced a backlash after several pictures were published of him in the company of notorious drugs lord Marcial Dorado.
Although the politician admitted to having a ‘personal relationship’ with Dorado, he insisted he had no idea about his friend’s illegal activity and immediately cut all ties following his arrest.
Feijoo also admitted to visiting Portugal and Ibiza with Dorado in the mid-90s but stated their last contact was in 1999.
However, the judge who sentenced Dorado to 14 years in 2003 said that during his investigation, which began in 2001, he tapped Dorado’s phone and recorded conversations between the pair.
Although the judge has insisted that the tapes contain nothing incriminating, members of the Galician Left Alternative party are demanding a ‘convincing’ explanation for the conversations.
The Galicia leader, who appeared in regional assembly earlier today, said he has ‘the tranquility of knowing the truth’ and feels that the ‘infamy’ of the scandal is now over.
