Firefighters started Genal Valley blaze

FIREFIGHTERS have been charged with stating a blaze that destroyed more than 800 hectares of valuable forest in the Genal Valley last month.

Nearly 150 people gathered in court to support the firemen who have been charged with negligence relating to the inferno that swept through Pujerra, Juzcar, Benahavis and Jubrique last month.

The judge must now determine whether the controlled burning of weeds by the fireman was the source of the fire which took nearly 400 fighters three days to bring under control.
