Write to fly

THE Olive Press is offering a prize of flights to the UK and book tokens for our inaugural writing comp for kids.

Split into two categories ‘Under 11s’ (300 words max) and ‘11 to 16-year-olds’ (500 words max) we want an article on any aspect of Andalucia you choose.

Please send your offerings to newsdesk@theolivepress.es under the catchline ‘Junior Comp’. Deadline March 15. The winners will be run in the section and chosen at the end of March.

  1. Great idea Olive Press – anything that gets UK kids to be encouraged to write. It should also get them to read more and lets hope the parents give them a good dictionary so they can learn to express themselves better.

    Let’s hope their parents put in some real time assistance too.

    I’ve noticed that when Spanish or French kids are interviewed on the TV they are far more confident and articulate than so many kids back home.

    Parents – turn the bloody TV off and converse with your children.

    Whenever I saw younger friends children doing their school homework in the UK they did it in front of the TV and the parents saw nothing wrong in that – tragic.
