Beware of car reverse scam in Spain

POLICE are alerting people to a new scam for stealing cars.

The latest modus operandi, according to the Guardia Civil, is for thieves to place a large sheet of paper on your back window obscuring your vision.

It means that when you reverse you  are forced to get out to remove it, at which point the thief gets into the driver’s seat and drives off.

“We are warning people to be very careful if you see any paper on your back window,” said a spokesman.

“Above all do not get out of your car until you are sure it is not thieves.”

  1. The simple answer is not to be lazy and to reverse into parking spaces rather than just drive in.

Especially not the diagonal approach which seems to be favoured by most Spanish drivers!
