Antequera’s five million euro museum opens

AFTER two years and a five million euro refit, Antequera’s municipal museum has reopened again.

Visitors can now enjoy 20 permanent galleries to soak up the glorious history of the city through art.

Its best exhibits include the ‘Efebo’, a beautiful bronze sculpture from Roman times, as well as sculptures by local artist Pedro de Mena.

The museum – which traces the history of the town, from prehistoric times to the present day – has quadrupled in size and includes previously unseen works by artists including Antonio Moher and Cristobal Toral, who is the only living artist on display.

On a visit to the new museum at the Nájera Palace, Junta president José Antonio Griñán said: “You need to make at least two trips to give yourself time to absorb what you are seeing.”

Entrance to the museum is free until the end of April.
