Gibraltar driven out of the sea

THE EU is set to investigate Gibraltar’s plans to expand into the sea.

In a further rift between the two neighbouring communities, the investigation follows a complaint from La Linea town hall.

It comes after mayor Alejandro Sánchez and PP boss Javier Arenas presented their complaint in Brussels.

In a 100-page document they claimed La Línea is suffering ‘verifiable damage to its beaches because of the proximity of the landfills’.

Now the President of the EU Petitions Committee, Erminia Mazzoni, has confirmed a preliminary investigation into the landfill expansion will go ahead.

  1. Why didn’t the EU investigate the massive expansion of the port of Algeciras into the Bay of Gibraltar? This has already had an adverse effect on wave patterns in the Bay. What about the Crinavis area? The only expansion in Gibraltar is an embarrassing rubble dump, which although piled high, hardly extends much into the Mediterranean. It is also entirely within British Gibraltar Territorial Waters (BGTW). Mr Sanchez, like all other little fascists before him, is merely trying to distract attention away from massive unemployment and unpaid salaries in his bleak little town and onto the Gibraltarians.

  2. The Spanish really do have some cheek!

The reclamation at the Campamento alone rivals all of Gibraltar’s current and planned reclamations for size. Not to mention the reclamation next to the mouth of the Guadarranque and for sheer hectarage the new “Isla Verde” part of the Port of Algeciras – if it gets any bigger it will be approaching same land area as Gibraltar itself!

  3. Look up ‘Utrecht Treaty’ and open both eyes. Britain the occupying force behind Gibraltar have no territorial waters. Sleezy developers with help them selves to other peoples property when ever they get the oppertunity. This has a number of names, criminal fraud, theft, robery. When done under the threat of a powerful thug it is called extortion.
