Prehistoric cannibal victims found in Spain

REMAINS of presumed Civil War guerillas in fact belong to cannibalized Neanderthals.

The bones found in an Asturian forest cave in 1994 were believed to belong to Republican die hards who operated in the area.

After a 16-year study, however, scientists concluded that the remains of a 12-person family were eaten by cannibals 50,000 years ago.

The scientists found sharp blades used to cut off meat and bones that have been broken open.
