Green is the new black for Zara

SPANISH fashion giant Zara has gone green.

After opening its 5000th store in Rome, the Inditex group has made a firm commitment to the environment.

The stunning new shop, built in a key historic palace, is fully sustainable and should get a platinum rating under LEED.

Up to date features include monitors that automatically control the levels of CO2, temperature, humidity, light intensity and noise.

And the store, which has become an emblem of the firm, consumes 30 per cent less energy than the average department store and uses 80 per cent less water.
