Hospital evacuated as heavy rain brings severe flooding to parts of Andalucia

By Amie Keeley

HEAVY rainfall over the last 24 hours has forced patients to be evacuated from a hospital in Ecija, Sevilla as 30 per cent of the historic town is flooded.

Dozens of residents have also fled their homes following torrential rain that brought the Genil river up to record levels.

The Ecija hospital patients have been moved to Osuna, while residents have been advised to leave their homes or move to upper floors.

Mayor Juan Wic said there had been no injuries.

But train lines and over 50 roads have suffered major interruptions, while lower Guadalquiver is on high alert.
