Oy vey! Now we’re the Costa del Corruption

SPAIN is more corrupt than Israel, according to a new poll.

The country has yet again failed to improve its ratings in the annual corruption poll issued by Transparency International.

As well as Israel – a country that continues to court controversy over its continual flouting of UN resolutions with regard to its Palestinian neighbours – Spain comes below Cyprus and, even the UAE.

Transparency International released its annual Corruption Perceptions Index, with war-torn countries, such as Somalia, Afghanistan and Iraq coming in the bottom five, along with Burma and Uzbekistan.

While at the opposite end of the scale Denmark, New Zealand and Singapore were tied at the top.

Britain came in at 20th, 10 places ahead of Spain.

But worryingly the 2010 results show that nearly three quarters of the 178 countries in the index score below five, on a scale from 0 to 10 pointing to a serious corruption problem.

  1. But I thought the ‘Quality of Life index’ said Spain was the best place in the Universe to live last week, lol. Truth be known, Spain is actually even higher in the corruption tables.

  2. I think Northern Spain is probably nearer the European level. It’s the south what brings the corruption score down. Seville has enjoyed a reputation for corruption since the Expo.
