English hearts broken at Spanish Open

ANDALUCIAN Alvaro Quiros broke the hearts of two Englishmen as he clinched victory at the Spanish Open.

World number 35 Quiros, from Cadiz, saw off competition from James Morrison and Mark Foster to secure his fourth European Tour victory.

“To be the winner of your open is something really, really great – with the Ryder Cup and the World Cup it’s the best three things in golf for me.”

Foster – the overnight leader going into the final day – endured a round to forget, finishing with a final-hole bogey to rule him out of the sudden death play-off.

And Morrison then gifted Quiros the glory at the Girona course by sinking his approach shot into the lake at the first extra hole.

“I think it’s one of the most important things in my life for sure,” said Quiros, 27.
