Spain seizes record cocaine haul

Spanish police have intercepted the largest ever consignment of air-borne drugs.

The two-ton shipment of cocaine was being smuggled into the Alava region from Colombia.

The high-grade cocaine, worth around 750 million euros, was hidden among 47 000 roses and carnations seized at Foronda airport.

Police have arrested 13 people suspected of belonging to an international smuggling ring. Some of them lived in Madrid and Barcelona.

The band of smugglers had recently conducted a test flight with legal goods. The police refused to identify the nationality of the suspects.

The news came on the same day that police in Columbia seized 750 kilos of cocaine heading for Spain.
