ENGLAND footballer David Bentley has spoken exclusively to the Olive Press about his love of Andalucia and his hopes for the bar he co-owns on the Costa del Sol.
The midfielder acquired a stake in the trendy Buddha Beach Bar last November and was down in Puerto Banus enjoying the close season break.
Bentley joined at his chic club by fellow internationals Jermaine Defoe and Paul Robinson. He was also joined by Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given.
And there can be no doubt about the healing effects the sunshine can have on a footballer after a long and hard season.
“It’s great just to come over here to Andalucia, chill out and recharge the batteries after a long season,” he explained.
“I love the Buddha Beach Bar – for me it is the best place to unwind and enjoy the beautiful beaches here on the Costa del Sol.
“There is no better place to hang out and have a beer right on the beach. I just hope this place continues to be successful.”
Bentley joined Tottenham last year in a £15 million deal but was unable to hold down a regular starting berth after the arrival of boss Harry Redknapp.
It has prompted reports of a possible move to midlands club Aston Villa – rumours that Bentley also confirmed to the Olive Press.
“We’re in talks at the moment. I don’t want to say much more,” revealed Bentley. “We’ll see what happens, I’m hopeful.”
His season highlight was scoring a stunning 40-yard volley against former club Arsenal in a thrilling 4-4 draw at the Emirates Stadium.
