AIR in parts of Barcelona and Madrid is laced with at least five drugs, a report has found.
Already heavily polluted, scientists have found traces of cocaine, LSD, opiates, amphetamines and cannabinoids.
The concentrations, while up to eight times higher than other European cities, such as Rome, were no cause for alarm.
“Not even if we lived for 1000 years would we consume the equivalent of a dose of cocaine by breathing this air,” said scientist Miren Lopez de Alda of the Superior Council of Scientific Investigations.
Spain is Europe’s largest consumer of cocaine and hashish.
