Attack on policemen and shooting of a couple on a bench in two days are not related, claims town hall
TWO violent attacks in two days are not related, a town hall has claimed.
The attacks in the small village of La Cala del Moral started with a young couple being hospitalised after being shot as they sat in a local square.
The 19-year-old girl and her 21-year-old boyfriend were rushed to hospital after the claimed ‘gangland’ attack.
The girl had injuries to her stomach and arms, while the man had injuries to his hands.
The following day another man – a policemen with the Policia Nacional – was badly beaten up in the very same square Plaza Gloria Fuerte.
In a bid to restore calm in the village, near Rincon de la Victoria, a police presence has been stepped up. A further eight local police are being sent to the town next month.
At a press conference the town hall and police appealed for calm, and denied there was a big gangland feud.
It was reported that rival gangs from Benalgabon, Moclinejo and La Cala were “at war”.
Arrested
Two 21-year-old youths – purporting to come from a gang known as ‘Los Calenos Boys’ – have been arrested and charged with the first shootings on May 4.
A pair of sawn-off shotguns, believed to be owned by the gang, were found in nearby Benalgabon.
In the second incident, in which a man was badly wounded as he walked his dog, three men have been arrested.
