Inland fraud

by

IT is one of the most inaccessible towns in inland Malaga.

But this didn’t prevent Valle de Abdalajís from suffering the malaise of urban corruption.

Now former mayor Tomás Gómez Arrabal is facing up to 30 years in prison for a dozen separate cases of planning fraud.

If found guilty he – and four other councillors – will likely be banned for life from holding office.

The Public Prosecutor has accused the five politicians of planning crimes between 2001 and 2004.

The accused apparently granted numerous building licences, fully aware that the projects in question failed to comply with the law.

Gómez Arrabal was mayor of Valle del Abdalajís between 1995 and 2007.
