A MAN has drowned off the shores of the Costa del Sol today.

The beachgoer was announced dead at the scene today after being rescued from the water off Las Gaviotas beach in Benalmadena.

It is the second person to drown in the same area within 15 days after a man died in similar circumstances on July 1.

The second death occurred today just before 1pm.

The 112 emergency number was called after witnesses saw a man come into trouble in the water.

Policia local, Nacional and emergency paramedics rushed to the scene as the man was pulled from the water by lifeguards.

They were unable to revive him.
