British councillor in Spanish town hall dies

A BRITISH expat and ‘well-liked’ councillor in a Spanish town hall has died at the age of 69.

Tom Ferber at became tourism councillor at Competa Town Hall in 2007 after retiring to Spain nine years ago.

He was instrumental in setting up the town hall foreigners’ department, and also developed hiking routes and wrote tourist guides for the area.

Ferber, originally from Lancashire, died on Sunday after a four-year battle with cancer.

He was buried on Monday in Competa’s cemetery.
